Something to Celebrate Still

Dsc03920_2
I won’t spend time today complaining, griping, or miserating over the three game sweep we just came off of…at home…against the Philles…to fall 4.5 games back…I won’t.

Instead we’ll celebrate the incoming of three new Braves fans. Our friends brought their kids and joined myself and my beautiful wife yesterday for a day at the park and their first Braves game ever. Even though the Braves did not get a win it was a memorable day at the park and a treat to watch three great kids get their first taste of Braves baseball.

Enjoy the pics and feel free to comment on this weekend’s disastrous series.

We’ve got a hot Brew Crew to deal with tomorrow so let’s get things turned around!

Thanks, Braves fans!

Smoltz’s 200 is Braves’ Third Series Win W/ Mets

Lm9ipsx2Two runs was all the Braves and Smoltz needed to seal the third series win with the arch rivals from the Big Apple.

Reasons tonights win was so meaningful:

1) Smoltz 7IP, 5K’s, 0 R’s 0 BB’s= win #200!
2) Glavine gets beat by the Braves again and demotes to 3-11 vs the team he betrayed..I mean abandoned…er…bailed out on…that is, sold out on, there we go, and 5-2 on 2007. Tom has been pretty good this year…against everyone else.
3) Braves snap a mini skid of series losses and have won 6 of 9 and every series with the hated Mets so far in ’07.
4) Wickman is back! Getting save #7 tonight.
5) 1.5 games back is a good way to finish our last meeting with NY until after the Break.

Post your thoughts on Smoltz’s 200 and the Braves getting their 6th win over the Mets

In Game Blog

Well last night was a good start to the series and nice way to bounce back after being bounced around by the Nationals and Red Sox. An 8-1 win over the visiting Mets sets the stage nicely for the second set tonight. The story of last night would be Kyle Davies and his eight inning one run performance…oh and by the way the guy hit a three run homer to dead center! Maybe Kyle is coming around a little, put him in the four spot he’s only 5 homers behind Andruw now.
This in game blog comes to you as the Braves wrap up the bottom of the second inning. Andruw gets plunked on the toe and then runs a little unaggressively to second base for an easy double play.

Tonight’s shakeup’s. Prado in at second, Salty behind the plate, Woodward at first base.

James on the hill against Perez who’s looked good against us this year. Here’s hoping we can bust open on him tonight and James can get win number 5.

Reyes on first, let’s se if he tests Salty’s arm.

As I write this, Smoltz has just left the game in the bottom of the seventh after tagging Austin Kearns. If you were watching, you saw at least one of three things:1) John Smoltz’s pinky bent in a way that turns your stomach.
2) John Smoltz’s competitive anger erupt on the field when he realized he was done for the night…hopefully not longer…we’ll soon see.
3) The Braves’ rotation taking a potentially hard, I mean HARD hit.

Bergmann’s been unhittable so far into the top of the eighth. I love seeing no-hit baseball just not against us. So here’s hoping to break it up and rally in Braves fashion. We’ve got McCann leading it off. Still though, Bergmann has looked good with 10k’s… Until now!!!!

McCann just blasted one to deep right! Now down by one. Rally Time!

Stay tuned!

This Week’s Good the Bad and The Ugly

The Good: Hudson. Need I say more? I will though. The guy records 12 k’s goes 8 innings without a run. But he starts the ninth and the rest falls into the ugly category. Chipper, KJ, and Diaz homer. Tuesday’s ninth inning was magnificent because the Braves played small ball and made some runs happen. We need more of that kind of timely hitting. Homers will not carry us through the season.

The Bad: Losing two out three to the Fish and our  first series of the season.

The Ugly: Andruw 0-4 with 3k’s and 4 lob’s last night.  A measly .230 BA. I hate to admit it, Braves fans, but it surprised me little when Andruw struck out with the bases loaded. This guy will hit 40+ hrs when it’s all said and done but we need clutch from Andruw not always long balls. AJ’s start is a little embarassing. Leaving Hudson in as long in the ninth. There’s an argument both ways for keeping him in or pulling him but I’d rather have the ballgame and good momentum going into Colorado. Last night was just miserable especially considering how well Hudson pitched. An otherwise tremendous start got wasted and Hudson racked up 3 ER’s when it was all said and done.

Well, with the pounding the Rox put on the Mets yesterday we’ve settled on a tie for first. Now we go into Colorado with Smoltz and James and then the back end of the rotation. Lance, come on and pitch for us and get at least the number 4 spot looking good again!Urlysokr

Rubber Game Today

Smoltz_1

GlavineWell it’s been a great series so far. Great pitching from Hudson and then an also impressive counteract from the Mets with Perez (who looked great yesterday since he kept his control intact).

So today’s game should be everything you bargained for if both aces are up to the challenge. Glavine and Smoltz face each other for the second time this season and ironically for only the second time of their careers.

Last two games have see-sawed with the Mets/Braves matching each other’s results. It goes to show you how neck and neck they both really are.

Will we see dominance and strikeouts from Smoltz with the slider working? Will we see Glavine paint the corners with precision? How well each pitcher comes through will detirmine the outcome in my mind. I normally would say "Get to the Mets bullpen". But even Hielmann has looked good recently in addition to rather impressive relief appearances from them all. Our bullpen hasn’t been as dominant as we were out of the gate but you have to feel a lot better about it this year than last and with Gonzalez, Soriano, Yates, and Wickman, I think if John can get a lead we should hold on.

Well here we go, Game Three. It’s been a great series so far. I’m hoping for a 3-2 win over the Mets. I don’t expect either team to put up 7 runs today but as Yogi Berra said "There’s one word that says it all in America. And that word is ‘you never know’."

Go Braves!
